Public works director dies in Chester - New Jersey Hills
Oct 24, 2016Mr. Olson, 45, served with the borough for 11 years. The cause of death was not known. He died at his home in Mansfield Township, Warren County.“A lot of superintendents are non-working superintendents. They do a lot of paperwork,’’ said Mayor Janet Hoven. “We have a small staff at the borough, only five individuals. Brian was a working member of the DPW.’’Hoven said that Mr. Olson once had his own contracting business and was involved in almost everything happening in the public works department.“Whatever we had to have done, he did,’’ Hoven said. “He was very enthusiastic and he always did it with a smile.’’“He just seemed like a really nice guy,’’ Karczewski said. “He was here just two weeks ago. We had a new sign in the library and we were hoping to get someone to help do some landscaping and he and his crew did the work for us.’’Karczewski also remembered a winter day two years ago, when the DPW workers were clearing the library’s parking lot after a storm.“We had a power outage and had some difficulties getting power back,’’ Karczewski said. “We were having some issues. Brian came inside and looked at everything and had an electrician at the library within an hour and solved our problems.’’Mr. Olson was born in Valley Stream, N.Y. moving to Mansfield in 1976. He graduated from Warren Hills Regional High School in 1990.He enjoyed building and helped with construction of the Tri-County Fire Department, Tiki huts, pizza ovens, decks, roofs, barns and fences while he helped with many neighborhood home improvement projects.Mr. Olson is survived by his wife, Susan; his mother, Margaret Olson; his daughter, Brianna Courter and her husband, Joseph; a sister, Pam Mulrooney; a nephew, Ryan Mulrooney; two uncles, Stewart Sutton and Mike Wolfe; and many aunts, uncles , cousins and friends.His father, Melvin, died previously.A celebration of his Life is planned for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Tri County Fire Department, 1720 Route 57, Mansfield Township.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Fallen Fire Fighters Widow Fund, P.O.
